Conviction, no way around it.
Another post on change. Yes, this topic again.. I think about it often since there are changes I want to make in my life and struggle to. Also part of my treating people involves recommending life style changes or modifications and understanding why they are so difficult for people to do.
I would like to begin by saying that my recommendations to people are always from a place of, "I've been there." Or, "I'm right there with you." I don't hold people to standards that I myself don't uphold. So whenever I tell people to increase their exercise. I know how difficult it can be with the busy lives we lead. I know that doing one more thing, even for 5 minutes, might seem in the realm of the IMPOSSIBLE! Removing that sugar from the coffee absolutely OUTRAGEOUS! (I'm struggling with this one for sure!!) Going to bed earlier. WHO ARE YOU KIDDING???
But it can and does happen more often when you add CONVICTION. Conviction is that added ingredient that tells your body/mind/spirit that this is important, it's a priority, you're not going to give up so easily and you are going to find a way no matter what.
I've been wanting to become vegetarian for several years but had a hard time taking that final step in just doing it. But then I sat in a talk about vegetarianism and the woman leading the group discussed the notion of conviction and I lit up. This lifestyle change is a statement about my beliefs. It supports a deep core value in me. I want to reduce the suffering on this planet, in any form. Once I made that connection and added conviction to my decision becoming vegetarian just happened.
Think about that change you want to make and then add conviction and watch it materialize. MAGIC
